Dr. Gerald T. Shinkawa

Dr. Gerry has been practicing dentistry for over 45 years and has only grown fonder of it with time. He’s proud to have both his beloved son and daughter, Dr. Adam, and Dr. Nicole working with him full-time and has enjoyed introducing them to his patients while watching them develop relationships with their own patients!

Born without his lower two teeth, Dr. Gerry was no stranger to dental work growing up. This encouraged an early love of oral healthcare, but it wasn’t until his roommate at Fresno State University was studying for the dental admissions test and convinced him to take the exam too that he considered attending dental school. He passed the exam, and the rest as they say is history!

Dr. Gerry earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) at the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, and since then has studied a diverse array of oral health topics such as orthodontics, periodontics, endodontics, dental implants, and periodontal surgery. He is also certified in the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique.

Outside of the office, Dr. Gerry values time with his family, including his lovely wife Sandra, whose baking skills are unmatched, and of course his two amazing children, Shinkawa Dental’s own Dr. Adam and Dr. Nicole. He also loves being outdoors, walking, biking, playing tennis, and fishing.

Dr. Nicole Shinkawa

Dr. Nicole Shinkawa joined her family’s dental practice over six years ago and has enjoyed working with her father and brother ever since! She first became interested in dentistry watching her dad, Dr. Gerry, work so caringly with his patients. She learned from a young age that dentistry wasn’t just about protecting the smile but about building strong relationships with patients.

After receiving her undergraduate degree at Fresno State University, Dr. Nicole earned her dental doctorate at the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry – the same school where her father and brother earned theirs! Since graduating, she has completed well over 300 hours of advanced training at prestigious organizations like Mollis Coaching, Kois, Hiossen for dental implant training.

She is a proud, active member of the California Dental Association, American Academy of General Dentists, American Dental Association, and the Fresno Madera Dental Society.

In her free time, she can be found practicing yoga, running, and hiking. The proud owner of a sweet tooth, she also loves spending time with her mother, baking and decorating cookies!

Dr. Adam H. Shinkawa

For as long as he can remember, Dr. Adam Shinkawa has been fascinated by dentistry, often quizzing his father, Dr. Gerry, about what he was doing in the dental office. This inspired him to shadow his father, where he enjoyed helping out in the dental laboratory with the dental models. However, despite all this early exposure to oral health, it wasn’t until Dr. Adam was shadowing another local dentist and was there to see a 70-year-old woman get dentures for the first time that he realized how much he wanted to be a dentist himself.

Dr. Adam earned his undergraduate degree at Fresno State University, and his dental degree at the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, the same place his father earned his. Following graduation, he has continued his education with a variety of courses through Spear and Hiossen® Implants. He also holds certifications in both Invisalign® and ClearCorrect.

When he’s not helping improve the smiles of his patients, Dr. Adam loves spending time with his family, including his father, Dr. Gerry, sister Dr. Nicole, and his incredible mother. He also enjoys taking trips to San Francisco and attending Giants games when he can!
